Lower & Upper Elementary (levels 1-6)
MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 9:00AM TO 3:00PM
Our Montessori elementary program serves grades 1st through 6th in separate upper and lower elementary classrooms. Each classroom strives to create a sense of community through respect. The multi-age classroom allows for many opportunities for mentoring, leadership, and creativity. Students love to learn from their peers, so the mentoring model allows for learning to happen naturally, without always being teacher led.
Freedom of movement, choice of activity, and long, uninterrupted blocks of time characterize our classrooms. These freedoms within limits support the student on their way to success, allowing them control over their growing body, mind, and desire for independence.
Montessori elementary levels focus on cosmic curriculum. This curriculum incorporates science, geography, math, literature, language, art, music, biology, history, practical skills, and physical education to meet the student’s every potential.
This interdisciplinary approach leads to creative and critical thinking skills, which develop so rapidly at this young age.
Students receive lessons in various forms throughout the week. Individual, small group, and whole class lessons are all part of the class routine. Students progress at their own pace throughout the year, and maintain a portfolio of their achievements, as well as taking pride in their daily classroom responsibilities.
BEFORE & After care
Students enrolled in a full time program have the option of registering for before and/or after school care. This allows children to arrive at Cornerstone as early as 6:30am and stay as late as 5:30pm. Drop in opportunities are available as well if calling the school to confirm there is space.
